Birmingham Bar Association Bulletin | Winter 2014

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR This has been a productive year for the Birmingham Bar Association, and we congratulate President Robin Burrell and the entire Executive Committee for a job well done! We are proud to have welcomed the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham to its new headquarters in the Bar Center, and hope that the Society will enjoy its new home for many years to come. The Bar’s Task Force on Investments studied Bar reserve allocations and took action to ensure that BBA savings are both wisely and safely invested, and the Task Force on Governance worked to propose a more effective and efficient governing structure for the BBA. We also transitioned to a new and streamlined web presence at www.birminghambar.org, and members and visitors alike should find the site more welcoming and user-friendly. Our Bar is fortunate to have an exceptional slate of officer candidates for election next week, and the ongoing commitment from our volunteers ensures that the Birmingham Bar will continue to make a difference in our profession, and in our community. We look forward to Steve Casey’s leadership as Bar President next year, and to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Please continue to share your thoughts and ideas about how best your bar association can be of help and benefit to you, and best wishes for a safe and enjoyable holiday season! John W.
