Tameka Wren, WLS Chair for 2013-2014, is already hard at work planning a celebration to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Women’s Section. If you are not already a member, we’d love for you to join us as we gear-up to celebrate 20 years of service to the BBA and the community! G featured Style Coach Megan LaRussa. Over thirty women lawyers attended the event, which featured champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and door prizes. Th e Summer Social and other social events provide a great opportunity to mingle and network in informal, relaxed settings. Th e WLS actively seeks opportunities to help others within the legal community, and it especially seeks opportunities to grow its relationship with and mentor to area law students. Th e WLS fosters its relationships with area law students and schools by its sponsorship of the annual Pinstripes and Pearls Panel Discussions held each year at Cumberland School of Law and the University of Alabama School of law. Th e purpose of the panel discussions is to provide insight to law students as they start their legal careers and make the transition from student to productive member of the legal community. Th e panel discussions typically focus on practical aspects of being a lawyer, such as how to conduct oneself in the work place and legal community, and the benefi ts of volunteering with non-profi t organizations. In addition, for over 11 years, the WLS has selected four lucky students (one each at Cumberland School of Law, University of Alabama Law School, Miles Law School and Birmingham School of Law) to receive a service award, the purpose of which is to reward a deserving law school student at each school for service to the school, particularly in advancing the cause of women or serving as a role model for others. All of these many events, projects, programs, activities, and other items of interest to our membership are communicated to the WLS membership through Birmingham Bar Bulletin/ Winter 2013 31
