FAWAL, PRESIDENT RE: BIRMINGHAM BAR ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING The Annual Meeting of the Birmingham Bar Association will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012 in the courtroom of the Presiding Judge, 370 Jefferson County Courthouse, beginning at 2:00 P. M. Annual reports of activities of the association will be presented, and individual section reports will be sent to you in advance and posted online. The 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2012 Burton Barnes Public Service Award will also be presented. The membership will consider important changes to the Association’s Bylaws, so please plan to attend. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: The Nominating Committee has presented the following slate for election: President Robert R. Baugh President-Elect Leslie Barineau & Robin Burrell Secretary-Treasurer Greg Curran & Mike Freeman Executive Committee Place No. 1 Diandra DeBrosse & Kira Fonteneau Place No. 2 Joe Basgier & Freddy Rubio Place No. 3 Phil Carroll & Drew Sinor Legal Aid Trustees (Two to be elected) Place No. 1 John Saxon & Brett Bloomston Bar Aid Trustees (Three to be elected) J. Mason Davis, Gregory H. Hawley, & Carol Stewart Article 3 of the by-laws of the Association provides that 25 active members, in good stan ding, may make other nominations by preparing, signing and filing with the Secretary of the Association a list of signatures at least ten days prior to the Annual Meeting. VOTING ONLINE VOTING: Election of BBA Officers and Executive Committee members will be online. ONLY MEMBERS CLASSIFIED BY THE BIRMINGHAM BAR AS “ACTIVE” WHO HAVE PAID THEIR 2012 MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE. Instructions to vote online will be posted at www.birminghambar.org not later than Monday, December 3, 2012 at 12noon. Any member who votes online may not cast a paper ballot. Members may vote only once. No list of votes cast, or voters participating in the election, will be made available to anyone under any circumstances except those persons charged with election oversight and tabulation of votes. Online voting begins Thursday , December 6th at 5:00pm and closes Thursday, Decembe r 13th at 5:00 p.m. Voting on Friday, December 14th must be conducted in person at the Birmingham Bar Center . Voting in person begi ns at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, December 14th, at the Birmingham Bar Center, and the polls close promptly at 12:00 noon. Election results will be announced during the Annual Meeting. LEGAL AID SOCIETY (LAS) ANNUAL MEETING (IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING!!) The Legal Aid Society’s annual meeting will immediately follow the BBA Annual Meeting. Please remain for this brief meeting! ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY The BBA Annual Holiday Party, for members only , will begin at 5:00 P. M on Friday, December 14, 2012. The event will occur at the Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Cathedral (307 19th South). Parking is available all Street around the building plus a city parking deck on 5th Avenue. Please plan to join friends and colleagues at our annual holiday party! I hope to see you all there.
