VOLUNTEERS DONATED 4,500 HOURS which is $1 million dollars’ worth of free legal services to the poor Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham expanded from 2 PROGRAMS WITH 15 HELP DESKS a month to 10 PROGRAMS WITH 32 HELP DESKS a month OUR PROGRAMS: 550 ATTORNEYS VOLUNTEERED LAST YEAR nearly 20 percent of the Birmingham Bar Association SAFE HOUSING • Civil Help Desk, twice weekly: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients stop evictions, ensure safe living conditions, and overcome other legal housing issues • Homeless Help Desk, monthly at Cooper Green: Volunteer attorneys help homeless clients obtain identification necessary to get jobs and housing. Volunteer attorneys also represent homeless clients at the special monthly Turning Point Court as well as once a year at Project Homeless Connect • Extended Representation Program: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients with their entire case from start to finish SAFE FINANCES • Civil Help Desk, twice weekly: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients fight wrongful creditor actions, avoid garnishments on their wages, and solve other financial legal issues • Bankruptcy Help Desk, monthly: Volunteer attorneys advise low-income clients seeking a fresh start • Patent Program: Volunteer patent attorneys help low-income inventors obtain patents • Extended Representation Program: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients with their entire case from start to finish SAFE FAMILIES • Domestic Relations Help Desk, weekly: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients with family issues, including victims of domestic violence • Domestic Relations Pro Se Docket, monthly: Volunteer attorneys assist low-income clients at a special docket for self-represented litigants • Extended Representation Program: Volunteer attorneys help low-income clients with their entire case from start to finish SERVING VETERANS • Veterans Help Desk, monthly: Volunteer attorneys help low-income veterans with any legal issue threatening their housing, finances, or families • Extended Representation Program: Volunteer attorneys help low-income veterans with their entire case from start to finish 32 Birmingham Bar Association
