Members Who Motivate Us food. Th ey do a lot of curry and I’m not a big fan. You don’t realize it, but a lot of American food has vinegar in it, which gives it a kick, and their food can taste a little bland. Th ey use a lot of seasonings, but it’s a very diff erent style. I’d have to get used to it. What would you like to see more of in downtown Birmingham? I am so happy about the revitalization. I remember being a little girl and nobody was down here – it was a ghost town. Th ings have changed a lot, but there are many streets that have not been touched yet. I would like to see more businesses move downtown, but I also hope this revitalization spreads to the neighborhoods, because they are in desperate need as well. You’re a mentee in the BBA Mentoring Program. How’s that going? Th e fi rst thing law students need to do when they pass the bar is join the BBA. It has been a great benefi t to me. Lauren Shine is my BBA mentor – she’s a great source of advice and help. We go out to lunch and talk on the phone. I’m going to visit her offi ce next week. I can call her anytime I have a question, even if it’s community service oriented instead of a legal question. What has your experience been volunteering with Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham? My fi rst experience was the Wednesday domestic relations help desk and shadowing a couple of attorneys. I had just passed the bar, so it was a very good experience for me. Heather Bussey (staff attorney at the VLB) has been very helpful. It is great for new attorneys who need guidance, and in exchange you’re helping people who really need it.
