Birmingham Bar Association Summer 2016

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Given that our annual Membership Picnic is days away, it is fitting and appropriate to recognize the tremendous talent of the Bar’s one and only Entertainment Committee. Most know that the Entertainment Committee produces two events each year, the Membership Picnic in June and the Holiday Party in December. Both provide extraordinary food, refreshing drink, and an opportunity to relax and catch up with roughly 1,000 of your closest BBA friends. When you arrive at the Picnic, for example, you will find a welcoming reception, plentiful food, and the conversational buzz of hundreds of lawyers, some who haven’t seen each other since last year. Behind the scenes, however, rest assured that Committee members have spent recent weeks meeting, planning, organizing, shopping, cooking, lifting, carrying, and hauling to prepare for a relaxing and fun day for the rest of us. Nick Callahan and the Entertainment Committee members quietly spend hours and days to pull off a party for a thousand, and I am always amazed to see this group of practicing attorneys and judges become a de facto “catering operation” within a Bar Association. To borrow from a local commercial jingle, “Ain’t nothin’ like em’ nowhere.” And trust me, no other local bar has anything that comes close. So come to the Picnic on June 10th (it’s free!) and enjoy the food and fun. When you see our Committee member “hosts,” please thank them for their effort and talent (they know how to cook!) Best wishes for an enjoyable summer. John W. (Bo) Landrum Executive Director BOARD OF EDITORS Anna L. Hart Russ Parker Jennie Pickett Christopher Randolph Sandra B. Reiss Ruth L. Robinson Hannah C.
