Magistrate Judge John England, Judge Joseph Boohaker, Leslie Wright, Rebecca Beers and Cedric Coleman serving on his committee. Th eir planning work was impressive and creative. Although we call the Retreat the “Bench and Bar Retreat,” it is by no means intended only for courtroom lawyers and Judges. As you could see from the retreat programming, this annual gathering is for the entire Bar, and defi nitely off ers value and benefi ts to the vast number of our Bar that is involved in legal work outside the courtroom. Bar Picnic Th is yearly picnic puts the breadth of our Bar front and center. Th e Entertainment Committee, chaired by Nick Callahan, prepares the picnic. Attendance is always high. Lawyers from all segments of our Bar attend. See old friends and make new ones. We look forward to seeing you there soon. Coffee With The Judges Typically held in Judge Boohaker’s courtroom with great food and door prizes, attendance ranging from one to two hundred, this monthly breakfast highlights our collegiality. President-Elect Charles Fry plans to move two of these breakfasts to other locations and focus on members who practice transactional, regulatory, corporate law. Our Sister Organizations Th e Birmingham Bar is proud of and strongly supportive of the charitable organizations we are associated with – Th e Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers Pro- President’s Message gram, a stand-alone charitable non-profit organization, and the Bar Foundation, also a stand-alone charitable non-profi t organization. Nancy Yarborough heads the VLP, with Jessica Drennan chairing this year’s VLP Board. Nikki Tucker Th omas heads the Bar Foundation, with Judge Teresa Pulliam chairing this year’s Foundation Board. Th ese two organizations have vibrant outreach programs of which are proud. We thank those organizations and their leadership for their great eff orts. In Sum Please get involved and stay involved.
