Birmingham Bar Association Bulletin

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR By the time you read this message, I will have been in the Executive Director role for just about two months, and I truly hope to be here for many years to come. It is an honor and privilege to have been selected for this position and to have the opportunity to serve the Birmingham legal community in this way. Having practiced law in Birmingham for over 18 years, first at a law firm and then as in-house counsel, I understand the challenges faced by lawyers in various practice areas and settings, and I look forward to working with you to find ways for the Bar to address those challenges. Throughout my tenure as Executive Director my goals will always be to: •  Listen to you and hear what your needs and wants are •  Identify ways to support you and help you achieve your goals for your practices and for the Bar •  Continually enhance your experience as a member of this Bar and increase its value to you •  Improve the ways we communicate with you and provide information to you •  Engage, connect and work collaboratively with you in all that our Bar does Several words of thanks are essential. First, thank you to Dana Thomas and Alyssa Prater, who are the “glue” that helps keep your Bar running smoothly - they are absolute treasures and deserve constant accolades! Second, huge appreciation to Bo Landrum, who is a tremendous mentor and support for me – and as you know, he has done amazing things for the Bar. Third, thank you to the Selection Committee that conducted the search for the new Executive Director - they devoted a great deal of time and energy and commitment to the process and I am thankful for their work. Fourth, my gratitude to the Executive Committees of 2017 and 2018 for their role in allowing me to pick up the reins from Bo. And finally, thanks to the partners with whom we share office space, the Birmingham Bar Foundation, the Birmingham Bar Volunteer Lawyers, and the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham - they have warmly and graciously welcomed me to their families. Please come see me or call any time. Best wishes to each of you for a spectacular spring! Jennifer M. Buettner Executive Director 2018 BOARD OF EDITORS William G. Nolan Jennifer W.
