Members Who Motivate Us Your influences? I’ve always considered myself a blues musician, so Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan. The guys that taught me how to play were blues musicians and it stuck. I like the style of the music, the changes and the chords--you can operate a lot of scales and modes in blues--and I think the blues feeling comes out even more in the music and notes than in the lyrics. Favorite 90’s jam? Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry. He didn’t even have to think about it. Deborah Byrd Walker Deborah Byrd Walker, Law Office of Deborah Byrd Walker, has practiced law in Birmingham for 33 years with a focus on corporate, governmental and transactional law. She is a graduate of Leadership Birmingham and currently serves on the BBA Executive Committee and as Vice Chair of the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church Credit Union Board of Directors. She is a past president of the Magic City Bar Association and is currently the Organizational Effectiveness Chair of the Magic City Chapter of Links, Incorporated. What book are you reading currently? Currently I’m reading Seamless--Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story by Angie Smith, which helps bring clarity in my understanding and appreciation of Scripture from Genesis through Revelation. I read with a small Bible Study group of ladies in my neighborhood. They pulled me into it: I was working in my garden one day and one of them saw me and invited me to join them. I’ve been with them for almost two years now. We meet to discuss books, talk about what we have learned and how it affects our daily lives, and end in prayer. What do you do to relax? I enjoy playing music--I’ve done that for over a decade. When you’re playing you’re not thinking of everything else that’s going on. Birmingham Bar Bulletin/ Fall 2018 15
