Third Class Postage Prepaid at Birmingham, AL   © Spring 2015/BIRMINGHAM BAR MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Once again, Fall is only weeks away and we are (hopefully) moving toward cooler and more pleasant weather! We have had exciting developments over the summer, and this will update you on several new initiatives and opportunities. The BBA launched its new Law Student Section in August to provide information about the organized bar and special programs for area law students. In October, the Bar will invite student members to learn about transitioning from student to practitioner, followed by an invitation to the 7th Annual Bocce Ball Tournament. Anne Durward, Ben Goldman, Alyson Rains and Tim Smith are organizing an outstanding program, and we hope that outreach to students will provide resources and support as they forge through law school and become new bar admittees. We are also revamping our Lawyer Referral Service for 2016 to provide greater value to panel members while serving as an important community resource. This overhaul includes reallocation of advertising dollars, rebranding of the LRS and simplification of online forms and information. Please stay tuned as we roll out a new and improved service! Finally, a shout-out to Lee Lesley, Tripp Watson, and the Solo/Small Firm Section for the Section’s generous donation of speakers and a projector for Bar Center CLE programs! Contributions for the greater good are always appreciated, especially as we search for opportunities to reduce operations costs. I hope you will enjoy the Fall, and continue to share your thoughts and ideas with us! John W. (Bo) Landrum Executive Director Congratulations and best wishes to Judge Houston L. Brown on his retirement from the Jefferson County Circuit Court! 4 Birmingham Bar Association
