Birmingham Bar Association Bulletin - Fall 2014

Awards Congratulations Are In Order! The BBA recently received the local bar Award of Achievement at the Alabama State Bar annual meeting in Destin, Florida. The award recognizes outstanding achievement of bar associations in promoting and facilitating community and public service projects. This year’s award marks the 6th time the BBA has been recognized by the Alabama State Bar. The documentary, “Preserving Justice,” co-sponsored by the BBA, the Bar Foundation, and the Magic City Bar Association, was nominated this year for two Southeast Regional Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Arts & Sciences. The film is a component of the overall “Journey for Justice” project, where lawyer volunteers and teachers in high schools and colleges help educate students about the civil rights challenges in Birmingham in 1963, and how that experience is instructive in facilitating positive change and growth today. The “Journey for Justice” project recently received the 2014 Community and Educational Outreach Award from the National Association of Bar Executives. Sponsored by LexisNexis, the award celebrates public service projects that promote law-related education in communities nationwide. Please note: The Birmingham Bar Association does not endorse any candidate for judicial office, nor should the presence of any campaign advertisement in The Bulletin be construed as such.
